Seoullo 7017: Seoul’s Amazing Sky Garden Above the City

Walking above Seoul Station on this elevated park blew my mind! Seoullo 7017 transformed an old highway overpass into Seoul’s coolest sky garden.

This incredible elevated walkway stretches 1 kilometer above Seoul Station, connecting 17 different paths and buildings. The name “7017” represents its transformation – built in 1970, reborn in 2017 as Seoul’s first sky garden.

What used to be a concrete highway overpass is now a beautiful plant-filled walking path suspended 17 meters above the bustling city streets.

The Walking Path Experience

The main walkway offers amazing views of Seoul Station’s railway lines and busy roads below. I love watching trains arrive while surrounded by hundreds of plant species – it’s like floating above the city chaos.

The path connects multiple levels and directions, so grab a map at the entrance. You can access different sections via elevators and stairs from street level.

Walking time: 30-45 minutes for the full route, but I always spend 2+ hours exploring and taking photos.

Plants & Flowers

Over 24,000 plants from 228 species line the walkway! Each section features different themed gardens – some with Korean native plants, others with colorful seasonal flowers.

Spring brings cherry blossoms, summer offers lush greenery, fall showcases beautiful autumn colors, and winter has unique bare-branch beauty. I’ve visited every season and each offers completely different vibes.

Night Scene Magic

Seoullo 7017 transforms after dark with beautiful LED lighting. The illuminated plants create a magical atmosphere above Seoul’s glittering streets. Night photography here is incredible – the contrast between urban lights below and garden lights above is stunning.

Best photo time: Just after sunset when city lights turn on but sky still has color.

Food & Restaurants

Several cafes and snack stands operate along the walkway:

  • Seoullo 7017 Cafe: Coffee with sky garden views
  • Food trucks: Korean street snacks and beverages
  • Nearby Seoul Station: Massive food court and restaurants just below

The elevated location makes eating here feel special – like dining above the city!

My Experience

I discovered Seoullo 7017 during my second month in Seoul while waiting for a train. What started as killing time became one of my favorite Seoul spots!

The genius of transforming unused infrastructure into public green space amazes me. Standing above Seoul Station’s organized chaos while surrounded by plants feels surreal – like Seoul’s secret garden floating in the sky.

I bring every visiting friend here now. It perfectly represents Seoul’s innovation – taking something old and making it beautifully functional.

Railway & Road Views

The elevated position offers unique perspectives of Seoul’s transportation networks. Watch KTX bullets trains arriving, subway lines crossing, and endless car traffic flowing below.

It’s like having a bird’s eye view of Seoul’s pulse – the constant movement of people and vehicles that keeps the city alive.

Map & Navigation

The walking path isn’t linear – it branches in multiple directions connecting different buildings and areas. Free maps are available at information centers, or download the Seoul city app for digital navigation.

Main route: Starts near Seoul Station, extends toward Namdaemun area with various connecting branches.

Past & Present

The transformation story is incredible – from 1970s automobile overpass to 2017 garden walkway represents Seoul’s evolution from car-focused to people-focused urban planning.

Old photos show the concrete highway filled with traffic. Now families stroll where cars once rushed, proving cities can reimagine their infrastructure.
