Seoul is one of the best cities in the world. From modernization to history and culture, it’s truly amazing. I am going to unravel everything about Seoul. If you are in Seoul, you should not miss these activities.
I arrived in South Korea on September 6th, 2023, as a student. Later, I secured a job at Myeong-dong, which was my first part-time job in Korea, and I also live in Seoul. Over time, I have become intimately familiar with every aspect of Myeong-dong, making it one of my favorite places. Despite being a bustling commercial district in Korea, it is renowned for its street food and diverse entertainment options. Additionally, the Myeong-dong Festival, held in the spring and autumn, features events such as the Miss Myeong-dong Pageant, folk games, traditional wedding ceremonies, fashion shows, and numerous other attractions.
N Seoul Tower
Namsan Mountain, a well-known Korean landmark that has been standing for more than 30 years, and you can enjoy a 360-degree view of Seoul city from the observation tower• The Lover’s Lock Wall is a must-visit place for couples and is also the filming location for many Korean dramas.• The lighting equipment that changes color according to the seasons allows you to temporarily forget the daily hustle and bustle of the metropolis and fully experience the beauty of SeoulN Seoul Tower is a major landmark located
Namsan Tower also known as N Seoul Tower, is very famous landmark. It has more than 30 years of history, and a beautiful bird eyes views, such a awesome! If you walk around Myeong-dong, you will see this tower. This is also one of my favorite places.
Bukchon Hanok Village
Bukchon Hanok Village is one of the traditional villages in South Korea. When you enter the village, you will see perfectly preserved blue-spring houses from the Joseon era, which is exactly what I experienced. In addition to that, there are Korean restaurants, Western restaurants, clothing shops, galleries, and Korean traditional houses. You can choose to either visit the northern village or stay in a Hanok. You must visit The Eight Villages in Kitamura, which is a famous attraction in Bukchon Hanok Village.
Gyeongbokgung Palace
Gyeongbokgung Palace is in the heart of Seoul and was built during the Joseon Dynasty. It’s stunning all year, with cherry blossoms in spring, lush greenery in summer, golden ginkgo trees in autumn, and snowy landscapes in winter. Many famous Korean dramas like “Da Jang Geum” and “You from the Stars” were filmed here. There are four main gates: Geonchunmun on the east, Yeongchumun on the west, Sinmumun on the north, and Gwanghwamun on the south. Gwanghwamun is the grand entrance with beautiful craftsmanship and design. Don’t miss the changing of the guard ceremony—it’s quite a sight!
Everland
Without excitement, traveling is nothing, isn’t it? The perfect place for you would be Everland. I think it can be one of the best things to do on your journey. Everland is an amusement theme park where visitors can enjoy a wildlife zoo by jeep, which is amazing, a marketplace representing the world’s main cities, and a flower celebration that changes every season.
Here are some of the activities you could do:
1. T Express: With a speed of 104 km per hour and a drop of 77 degrees, it is absolutely thrilling! This is the highest roller coaster package in the world and is highly recommended.
2. Safari World: An open safari view spread out through a wide window. A chance to encounter live predators right under your nose! Lower vision, closer vision, wider vision. Meet more vivid wildlife.
3. Panda’s World: You’re cordially invited to Korea’s only exhibition hall that incorporates advanced IT, where you can not only view but also experience pandas. Diverse IT devices deliver a vivid experience of a panda’s everyday life. A space where you can view the cute pandas right under your nose!
4. Amazon Express: Let’s take off for the jungle in search of hidden pleasure and fun! The cool splash of water along the 580-meter-long water path adds more fun to our adventure. A person of 110cm or less must be accompanied by a guardian.
5. Dynamite MV Location: Come and check out the shooting location of BTS’ hit song “Dynamite” MV!
Starfield Library
Do you love to read books? Remember, readers are leaders. I won’t give you motivation, but I must say, Starfield Library is one of my favorite places. This library is situated in COEX MALL, a department store in Gangnam. People come here for photography and leisure. The library features three large bookshelves up to 13 meters high, surrounding everyone as if walking into a wonderful world like a fairy tale. It houses more than 50,000 books and magazines. The library has a new equipment e-book system, and everyone can read them. I recommend visiting the library, where you will definitely find a romantic environment.
Itaewon-dong
If you are a lover of excitement, Itaewon-dong is the place for you. Itaewon 2nd Street is a necessary stop to walk around. It’s full of excitement – hotels, restaurants, amusement parks, trading company agencies, travel agencies, and tourist hotels. I’ve been there several times, and if you feel exhausted, you’ll find enjoyment there. It is a very famous tourist destination for tourists as it provides everything you need. The presence of American troops nearby gives it a unique vibe. In Korea, I found a language barrier, but when you are in Itaewon, no need to worry about language. You’ll definitely find an English vibe, like an English street. In addition, you can also taste foreign-style food and beverages that are hard to find in other places, such as Turkey, India, Pakistan, Switzerland, Thailand, etc.
Lotte World Adventure
Lotte World is another must-visit place. This theme park has an outdoor Magic Island, Adventure theme park, an ice skating rink, a shopping mall, and the Korean Folk Museum. It’s a very crowded place over the weekend, so you have to be ready for that. Rides like the bungee drop, Gyro swing, Atlantis, Comet Express, and Flume ride are very famous. The night is even more fascinating – it’s pretty like Seoul wakes up at night. The park comes alive with an exciting multimedia night parade.
Nami Island
It’s like a crescent moon, where people can access various activities to relax and entertain themselves – the magnificently beautiful Nami Island. It is the perfect place for whoever wants to enjoy nature peacefully.
If you want to enjoy entire Island, you should take ten hours to make the most of your stay by purchasing a ticket to enter the Island, you can take a round trip ferry from the Gapyeong pier without any problems.
Seoul Sky Observatory
Do you want to feel like a bird and explore the whole of Seoul from the sky? Visit the Seoul Sky Observatory, where you can enjoy the view from 500 meters high and experience a 360-degree panoramic view. It’s such an amazing experience!
The Namsan Cable Car
The Namsan Cable Car is also a popular tourist facility loved by locals and visitors alike. It can carry 48 people at a time and provides views of the mountain, where you can enjoy the full vista of Seoul. It is recommended that you visit at night for an even better experience.
Seoul Grand Children's Park
I go to Grand Children’s Park each morning. This park is perfect for mornings and evenings. While you are in Seoul, near Sejong University, you should visit this park. It features a large zoo, a botanical garden, a marine animal house, a small animal village, an amusement park, outdoor concert stages, sports facilities, and even a parrot often visited by schools and families for picnics. All these facilities are completely free. Another cool feature of the park you should not miss is the Music Fountain, a colorful water show, and the Water playground.
Seoul Forest Park
Seoul Forest Park, also known as Central Park, covers an area of 350,000 square meters. This park used to serve as the king’s hunting ground and parade ground, boasting a long history. However, now Central Park is utilized as a racecourse and golf course. I’ve learned that a large-scale lawn has also been developed in Seoul Forest, covering 8,000 square meters as a resting place for citizens and tourists, while the forested area spans around 45,000 square meters, providing a habitat for wild animals. It would be a great chance to see many wild animals there. Apart from that, there are also outdoor stages for performances and events. I highly recommend visiting the place.
It’s time to explore another attraction of Seoul called Deoksugung Palace. This place has a fascinating history. Deoksugung Palace is one of the five palaces from the Joseon Dynasty, built in the 15th century. The Korean royal family used to reside there, like the Joseon Kings. Unfortunately, in the 20th century, the Japanese destroyed most of the palatial complex during their invasion. However, the government of Korea has restored the remaining buildings, and it has now become one of the tourist spots. The magnificent palace provides a glimpse of the lavish lifestyles of royalty. The interiors of the palace are grand, with whimsical stone sculptures dotting the landscape. Those interested in ceremonial displays of pomp and grandeur can enjoy the changing of the guards ceremony held every weekend between 2:00 and 3:30 in the afternoon.
Dongdaemun History & Culture Park
Dongdaemun History and Culture Park is also known as DDP. However, it sounds cultural, right? This park is a bit of a complex space that combines traditional buildings and relics. The good thing about this park is that it’s completely free. I work a part-time job in Myeong-dong. Every day I pass by the park, but I never felt interested in visiting it. However, after finally visiting the park, I consider that it’s worth a visit. I do recommend visiting the park, as you’re in Seoul, why not give it a try? I can say it’s worth it as it’s free of cost and if you have the time. It’s open 24 hours a day. You will be able to enjoy the Fortress, Erjin Water Gate, Dongdaemun History Museum, Dongdaemun Relic Exhibition Hall, and Dongdaemun Stadium Memorial Lighting Tower.
Yeouido Hangang Park
Hangang Citizens Park sits beside the Hangang River in Seoul, where locals come to relax. Covering a vast area of 2.1 million square meters, it offers sports and recreational facilities. Every day, people come here to jog, walk along the trails, ride bikes, or even enjoy rollerblading. It’s a popular spot for outdoor activities and leisure.
Yeouido
Yeouido is a little island in the Han River, South Korea. Every spring, when cherry blossoms bloom, Yeouido transforms into Seoul’s flower garden. The 6-kilometer circular road on the island, lined with cherry blossoms, is famously called “Sakura Avenue.” It’s like a long tunnel of flowers. If you love nature, visiting this place, especially with your partner, would be a wonderful experience.
Namsangol Hanok Village
Korea offers a rich diversity, from its bustling cities to its serene villages, both of which I love exploring. Each time I visit, I’m struck by the beauty of the Korean people. One place that stands out is Namsangol Hanok Village in Seoul. It’s home to five well-preserved Hanok houses from the Joseon era. As you enter the village, you’ll see a pond called “Cheonghakji,” designed to reflect the past landscape of Namsan. The village showcases both the grand homes of scholars and the more humble dwellings of commoners, giving a glimpse into the social structure of the Joseon era. Visitors can participate in traditional weddings and cultural activities held in the courtyards of these Hanok houses, offering a unique experience of Korean heritage.
Insadong
Insa-dong, situated in the heart of the city, is a significant area showcasing precious traditional items. Its main street is flanked by alleys, where you can find galleries, traditional eateries, teahouses, and cafes. These galleries, numbering around 100, are the soul of Insa-dong, displaying various traditional Korean artworks like paintings and sculptures. Notable ones include Hakgojae Gallery, known for folk art, Gana Art Gallery, supporting emerging artists, and Gana Art Center. The teahouses and restaurants hidden within the alleys add charm to the area, offering a delightful exploration experience. The shops here are loved by people of all ages for their uniqueness. On weekends, from Saturday afternoon until Sunday evening, the main street becomes a cultural hub, closed off to vehicles. Merchants set up stalls selling Korean candies, and there are traditional performances and exhibitions. Insa-dong is particularly beloved by international tourists seeking an authentic taste of Korean culture and the opportunity to purchase exquisite artworks.
